The role of anti-spheroidizing elements (spheroidal interference elements)

This type of element mainly refers to the elements that destroy and hinder the spheroidization of graphite. According to its mechanism of action, it can be divided into three categories:

   One is consumable type of anti-spheroidizing elements, such as sulfur, oxygen, selenium, tellurium, etc., which form compounds with magnesium and rare earth elements, and prevent the formation of spheroidal graphite by consuming spheroidal elements.

   The second is the spheroidal interference elements of the segregation of the boundary, including tin, antimony, arsenic, copper, boron, titanium, aluminum, etc. These elements are enriched to the grain boundaries, which promotes the formation of malformed dendritic graphite when the crystallization of the eutectic is late. If the content of these elements is high, it can also cause graphite distortion in the middle of the eutectic to form agglomerated or slab-like graphite.

   The third is some intermediate spheroidizing interfering elements, such as aluminum and antimony. When they are low in content, they lead to graphite distortion through segregation, and they can also consume spheroidized elements when the content is high. In addition, the anti-spheroidizing elements also have different effects on the ductile iron matrix. Te\B strongly promoted the formation of white mouth, As\Sn\Sb\Pb\Bi stabilized pearlite, Al\Zr promoted the formation of ferrite, and Se had no effect.
